Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MERS first installed on VLOC

Recently, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) provided the first installation of a marine engine waste heat power system (MERS) on a giant ore vessel (VLOC).
It is reported that this waste heat power generation system can greatly improve the power generation efficiency by maximizing the recovery and utilization of the waste heat of marine diesel engines. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries said that by using the shaft motor that will return the remaining power to the main engine, the latest use of the ship engine waste heat power generation system will help to recover more waste heat. The new use of marine engine waste heat power generation systems can reduce fuel consumption by approximately 8%.
The use of a marine engine waste heat power generation system is a system that combines an exhaust gas turbine and a steam turbine and separately optimizes and controls the energy recovery efficiency of the exhaust gas.
Since the introduction of the system to the market in 2010, orders for the use of marine engine waste heat power generation systems have increased. The system is mainly installed on reefer container ships that need to consume a lot of power.
