April 20th, Japanese president of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Aikawa Tetsuo admitted on the 20th that the company has four micro-cars in the fuel economy test in violation of the rules to beautify the emission level, the scandal involving a total of 625,000 cars.
The four models include the eK Wagon and eK Space, as well as the DAYZ and DAYZ ROOX developed in collaboration with Nissan. At present, all four models have been discontinued, but it is not expected to be recalled due to lack of safety performance.
It is reported that in order to obtain higher fuel efficiency, Mitsubishi Motors is suspected of cheating in setting the tire load value to obtain relevant fuel efficiency certification. If a car that violates regulations is subject to formal testing, it is expected that fuel consumption will increase by 5% to 10% from the current level.
Affected by the scandal, Mitsubishi Motors' share price fell sharply from the previous day's closing price of 864 yen per share to 733 yen per share, a drop of 15.16%, and the intraday decline reached 17%.
This is the third time a large-scale scandal has occurred in Mitsubishi Motors in recent years. In 2000 and 2004, Mitsubishi Motors was exposed twice for concealing vehicle defect records and customer complaint information. The company has not reported auto hazards to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for decades, and has chosen to repair and adjust defective auto parts in private, which has received widespread attention and criticism.
