Due to the use of unqualified personnel for vehicle inspections, Nissan Motors began to taste the bitter fruit. In October, the sales volume of local new cars dropped by nearly 20%.
On October 25, according to the Japan Economic News, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. sold about 12,300 vehicles in Japan from October 1 to October 20 this year, and sales are expected to decline by nearly 20% year-on-year. This was very abrupt in October when Japan's national auto market rose by nearly 10%.
Nissan’s “registered car†(ie, an ordinary car with a displacement of 600 cc or more) produced at a Japanese factory was most affected: sales from October 1 to 20 were only 8,900, a decrease of over 20% year-on-year. Previously, the model had been exposed to the problem of unauthorized personnel inspection.
Affected by the brand, Nissan Motors commissioned a light-duty vehicle produced by Mitsubishi Motors. Although it did not find the above problems, its sales also fell by nearly 10%.
Previously, Nissan’s domestic sales in Japan had increased for the 11th consecutive month.
According to a report from the Xinhua News Agency, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced on October 19 that it will suspend its six domestic auto production assembly lines in order to investigate how unauthorised workers have made pre-plant quality inspections for cars. Nissan Motors stated that the production of overseas exported cars will not be affected.
Nissan is a Japanese old car manufacturer.
Earlier this month, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport examined Nissan's factory and found that the company was located in five factories in Kanagawa Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture. The unqualified technicians performed the final inspection of the vehicle and used it. The official inspector's seal is stamped on the inspection record.
In response, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan has requested Nissan to report on measures to prevent the recurrence of such problems before the end of October.
Earlier on October 6, Nissan Motor Co. said it will recall 1.16 million cars produced and sold locally from January 2014 to September 2017. It is said that the recall cost will reach 25 billion yen (approximately 147 million yuan).
Nissan Motor once stated that overseas export cars are not in the recall because the quality inspection certificate is only a standard set by the relevant Japanese ministries.
According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. took about two weeks to restart the factory line. However, it needs to submit a report to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan stating the cause of the problem and its countermeasures. If the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan considers that the rectification measures are not sufficient, the local production line of the Nissan Factory will continue to suspend production.
Nissan Motor has already reached upstream suppliers and many factories have closed their doors.
According to the statistics of Japan's relevant databases, Nissan Group has a total of 14,600 sub-contractors in Japan and employs 7,961 people. Among them, companies with an annual output value of 100 million to 1 billion yen accounted for 53.4% of the total. Analysts at the database said that if there is no solution to the suspension of production, SMEs highly dependent on Nissan will face the test of survival.
