Texas Instruments announced the world's smallest mini-transponder with a half-duplex radio frequency identification (RFID) to help customers embed tags into smaller objects in a wider range of applications. This raises the standard for half-duplex (HDX) transponder technology. The 12mm TRPGR30TGC and TRPGP40TGC glass package mini repeaters are ready-to-install and fully backward compatible with all TI RFID software and readers, including power modules, control modules, and microreaders. The TRPGP40TGC can be programmed according to the ISO 11784/11785 global livestock ID standard, so customers can design compatible products that can be read around the world using a 134.2 kHz ISO-compliant receiver/infrastructure. The mini transponder has sufficient durability (suitable for applications such as tools, medical instruments, packaging and inventory tracking) and sufficient safety (applicable to fish and livestock tracking and pet identification) with a working life of up to 30 years.

The read range is up to 20 inches (50 centimeters) and simplifies the tag positioning of fish tracking in salt water environments where freshwater or even FDX technology completely fails.
