“Dare to invest in such a large container ship now shows our confidence in the future market prospects.” Li Shaode, president of China Shipping Group, said in an interview with China Business News. The "Star of the China Sea," which was first voyaged yesterday, is a typical ship type that is built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industry Shipyard and is currently the world's most modernized, fastest, and most highly-informed container ship. This type of ship has a length of 366.069 meters, a ship width of 51.2 meters, a ship depth of 29.9 meters, and a draft of 14.5 meters. According to the reporter’s understanding, the “Star of the China Sea” will invest in the 1st European shipping line of China Shipping Container Lines Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CSCL”), a container shipping company under the China Shipping Group. The current port of call is: Shanghai (Yangshan)- Ningbo - Yantian - Felixstowe - Hamburg - Rotterdam - Hong Kong - Shanghai. Despite being the first voyage, this very large container ship is already operating at full capacity.

Li Shaode told reporters that during the first voyage of the "Star of the China Sea", the goods of China Shipping Group and several of the world's top 20 liner companies cooperated with each other through the form of mutual rental accommodation. Having experienced the financial crisis, global shipping companies are aware that the strengthening of cooperation is a trend. Therefore, under the premise of controlling the over-expansion of transport capacity, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation such as cabin rent and rent.

As a domestic shipping giant, China Shipping Group currently operates more than 140 container ships and more than 500,000 TEU capacity. Among them, ships with more than 4000 TEU accounted for 84.2% of the total and annual total shipping capacity reached more than 10 million TEU. Currently, CSCL currently manages nearly 80 domestic and foreign trade routes. The service scope of the service covers all major global trading regions in China's coastal regions, Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australia, and the Persian Gulf. It also operates in more than 100 countries (regions) worldwide. Established 81 agents and more than 300 sales outlets.

At present, CSCL has made a total of eight such vessels. The "Shining Star" is the first vessel to be delivered, and five vessels will be delivered within the next year. The other two vessels will be delivered early next year. Li Shaode also revealed that in addition to the 14100TEU ultra-large container ship, China Shipping Group plans to introduce 3 4700TEU container vessels for coastal internal trade and 3 300,000 tons of super-large tankers, 2 300,000 tons and 2 230,000 tons ore sand ship.

“I think the current supply and demand of the container shipping market is basically balanced, and even the traffic growth is slightly larger than the capacity growth.” Li Shaode pointed out that in the future, China Shipping Group will strengthen the mutual rental space with other major shipping companies in the United States, Europe, and the Mediterranean.
