Recently, China's first near-pressure photoelectron spectrometer has successfully completed installation, commissioning and roadshows at Shanghai Microsystems. The instrument can realize the in-situ measurement of photoelectron spectroscopy under the condition of sample atmosphere pressure up to 20 mbar, which fills the gap in the field of near-atmospheric photoelectron spectroscopy in China.
Relying on the project funded by the National Development and Research Commission of the Committee for the Development of the “Integral Energy Structure and Environment Research Platform for In-Situ Electronic Structures (SiP·ME2) Based on the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Source†project of the National Key Scientific Research Instruments and Equipment, led by the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences The four joint units will build an international advanced level, multi-functional, and high-precision in-situ electronic structure integrated research platform in Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Source (SSRF).
Near-atmospheric photoelectron spectroscopy is one of the important components of this instrument. It breaks through the traditional soft X-ray spectroscopy that can only be applied to barriers under high vacuum or ultra-high vacuum and can perform photoelectron spectroscopy measurements under near atmospheric pressure. This makes it possible to perform real-time in-situ analysis of the chemical composition, oxidation state, and electronic structure of the solid-gas, liquid-gas interface at near atmospheric pressure.
In March 2014, in the No. 3 Building of the Shanghai Microsystems Institute, the researcher Liu Zhi's research group successfully completed the installation and commissioning of the first near-atmospheric photoelectron spectrometer in China and the roadshow. The commissioning work of this equipment is mainly undertaken by assistant researcher Chang Rui. The successful operation of this instrument has filled the gap in the field of near-atmospheric photoelectron spectroscopy research in China. The instrument enables photoelectron spectroscopy in-situ measurement at atmospheric pressures up to 20 mbar. The sample can be heated up to 800K, which can meet most of the catalytic reactions, solid-air interface and other research. At present, the instrument has been used as a platform pilot device for scientific users. And in May this year, further expansion and upgrading.
