Third-generation turbocharged engine put into production in 2012

Karl-Heinz Bauer, Chief Technology Officer of Honeywell Transportation Systems Group, pointed out in Tianjin on September 4th, 2010 that turbocharging technology can not only reduce the emission of harmful gases, but also reduce fuel consumption without sacrificing the dynamic performance of automotive engines. Improve fuel economy and miniaturize the engine.

Turbocharging uses the energy inside the exhaust gas to recover, and then adds compressed air to allow the engine's cylinder to obtain more energy. At the same time, it uses less fuel, because the internal combustion uses exhaust gas circulation, and then through diesel or Turbocharged gasoline directly after injection can improve the fuel economy by 20% to 40%, which not only increases the power but also increases the fuel economy.

Karl-Heinz Bauer said that turbocharging is to decrement the engine and allow the smaller engine to maintain its performance in order to use less fuel. For example, gasoline booster can save 10% to 20%, diesel booster fuel consumption can reach 20% to 40%. If the supercharger technology is used to match the hybrid power, both the engine power and the torque will not be reduced, the engine will be miniaturized and lighter, and the fuel economy and exhaust emissions will be reduced.

At present, China adopts a preferential taxation policy for engines with engine displacements of 1.6 liters and below, making small-displacement engines grow rapidly. This shows that the miniaturization trend of gasoline engines will accelerate the use of turbocharger technology.

Gao Dinggui, general manager of Honeywell Turbocharged Technology China, said that the main vehicle manufacturers in China are all interested in using the gasoline turbocharger to miniaturize the engine and maintain a high level of engine power. What we do is to provide the latest technology for the domestic market and help automakers meet the latest emission standards.

In 2012, Honeywell will supply a 1.4-liter, JAC 1.5-liter small-emission gasoline engine turbocharger for GAC Fiat.

Karl-Heinz Bauer stated that turbocharging is a green and mature technology, low cost, high reliability, and can be applied to all engines that require “air”. He revealed that the breakthrough of the third generation of gasoline booster technology, which can achieve more than 40% miniaturization, will be put into production in 2012. The first generation is based on diesel technology to achieve a 20% miniaturization, and the second generation is designed specifically for gasoline engines, achieving 25% to 30%.

It is estimated that by 2015, sales of gasoline turbocharged vehicles will increase by a factor of five, while the number of newly-manufactured light vehicles using turbochargers will increase by 20% year-on-year.

For cars from 2020 on, from 3.3 liters of emissions to 1.4 liters of small displacement, the third-generation turbocharging technology will be adopted. Different models and different engines will be turbocharged to improve fuel economy. Including heavy trucks, construction vehicles.
