From April 19th to 28th, 2011, the group company will display a Ferrari and its Webasto collapsible roof system, a Mercedes at its booth in Hall W4 of the German Pavilion. The Mercedes-Benz long-wheelbase E-Class sedan and its panoramic sunroof, as well as parking heaters for cars and commercial vehicles, are exhibited.
Franz-Josef Kortum, Chairman of the two-piece collapsible hardtop Webasto Group of Ferrari California stated: “China is the most important and largest growth market for Webasto, and we have been successfully active in this market for more than a decade. The Shanghai Auto Show has provided us with an excellent platform to showcase our full knowledge and technology, especially in the face of struggling local manufacturers."
The broadest portfolio of collapsible roof systems
The Webasto Group develops and produces collapsible soft tops and foldable hard tops for world-renowned car manufacturers.
Webasto showcased a Ferrari California two-piece folding hardtop at its booth, a highlight in its proprietary folding roof technology. The foldable roof system has the following features: With the proportional valve technology applied for the first time in the hydraulic device, the foldable roof made by Webasto can be opened and closed in just 14 seconds. In addition, the sophisticated movement structure also ensures that there is enough room for the trunk.
Webasto's roof system
Webasto roof system product portfolio includes built-in sunroof (climbing/sliding sunroof), open skylight, fixed and openable panoramic sunroof, and sunroof system with solar function.
At the Shanghai auto show, Webasto showcased its proprietary roof technology through its openable panoramic sunroof made for the Mercedes-Benz long wheelbase E-Class sedan. The large roof system connects the front windshield and the rear windshield together to form an all-glass appearance. It shows that the panoramic sunroof has become the object of automotive design. In addition, the roof system has a one-touch operation function with an anti-clamping function for the steplessly adjustable electric glass roof and the opening and closing of the sun shade.
The light and advanced ceiling system of the Audi A1 sedan exhibited as an exhibit indicates that the use of a panoramic glass sunroof as a design component has now entered the field of small vehicles. The characteristic of this roof is that it is embedded in a U-shaped one-piece polycarbonate frame with a lightweight structure. The frame emits a deep black luster and its surface is very scratch-resistant. The same roof can also be provided as a special configuration of the Volkswagen Polo sedan.
Heating with Webasto gas and plumbing heaters
Webasto develops and manufactures two types of parking heaters: gas and plumbing heaters that are suitable for various vehicles and have different functions and heating power ranges.
On the stand was the Thermo Top Evo series of plumbing heaters, which weigh only 2.1 kg and are the lightest heaters of their kind in the world. Their work efficiency is very high and they are very fuel-efficient and have minimal noise. This ensures that the interior of the cabin will be warmed up and ensure safe driving after start-up. Webasto can provide accessory products for OEMs and retrofit parking heaters for the aftermarket.
Webasto showcases the Thermo Pro 90 parking heater for commercial vehicles, which is independent of the engine and can provide infinitely adjustable heating power from 1.8 to 9.1 kW. The heater is designed for long-term heating operation with a service life of approximately 5,000 hours. By using the automatic altitude adjustment function, the heater can automatically adjust the heat output power with the height change, so that the heating performance can be optimally adjusted even at a high altitude. In addition, the heater can also be operated using biodiesel. The Thermo Pro 90 can be used as a genuine device or retrofit.
Webasto will showcase the Air Top 2000 ST in the air heater package. Its maximum heating power is 2 kilowatts, with 12 volt and 24 volt versions. In addition, it can be powered by diesel or gasoline. Because of its compact structure, the heater can be installed directly in the car or outside the car. With an hourly fuel consumption of up to 0.24 liters, it is one of the most fuel-efficient heaters in the world. The heater can be used in low temperature climate conditions of minus 40 degrees Celsius.
