The construction of the Bayer/Iintegration Base project is progressing smoothly. Since 2005, the construction of the Bayer/Integrated Base has entered a full-speed increase phase. In the next five years, US$1.7 billion will be put in place. Bayer will develop at a speed of setting up a factory every year. By 2008, the planned production capacity of polycarbonate will reach 200,000 tons/year, MDI will reach 350,000 tons/year, and TDI will reach 160,000 tons/year. By then, the Bayer/Integrated Base will become one of the largest polymer raw material production bases in the world.
The Bayer Estate Integrated Site covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers. The three major projects are Bayer Coating Systems Shanghai Co., Ltd., Bayer Polymers (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and Bayer (Shanghai) Polyurethanes Co., Ltd. The current construction is part of the Bayer/Integrated Base Phase II project. Phase II consists of three main components: the Polycarbonate (PC) Project, the Polyurethane Project (MDI and TDI), and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). Expansion of the project is expected to achieve partial production in 2006. As one of Bayer's most important investment projects in Greater China, Bayer has high hopes for the future of the base. Dr. Dai Mu, president of Bayer Greater China Group, said in an interview with reporters that the base will use the industry's most advanced production technology and the most modern management tools.
